Reebok - the forgotten brother of adidas

Reetoneads

Found this artical on twitter and i think it couldnt be any more true. Adidas used to have amazing advertising campaigns but this one just seems like a copout

"Ever since it was bought by Adidas, Reebok has been a ship without a brand identity. That became glaringly obvious after the shoe-maker's most recent campaign debuted — Reetone, for the beautiful-butt-molding EasyTone line of kicks. As happens in this business, we overhear conversations and this is a direct quote from a Reebok employee, overheard in New York (it's nothing you couldn't have guessed):"

"Reebok basically doesn't have a brand anymore," said the employee at a recent media event we attended. "The decision to go with 'sexy' for those EasyTone ads was because [Reebok] knew they'd go viral and that pretty much nothing else would work."

"As they say — when your brand has no other story to tell, use sex."

Jade

Bmb

Today we went to see Jade Trott from BMB, to be honest Nora was much more excited than i was. However after our book crit with jade (who could well write an advertising motivation book as good as the legendary Paul Arden) I was determined to get into BMB. Purely because of Jade's passion for what she does, nothing else. Yes BMB are an amazing agency and yes thry do amazing work. But the work ethic and passion that jade has for selling products makes me want to work there so much.

Jade you gave us the best book crit we have ever had (and possibly will ever have) and we both respect you so much.

Here's hoping we are with her soon.

Tony & Kim

Tonykim460

Yesterday saw me send more emails to my favourite agency in the world ! Wieden + Kennedy. I guessed Kim Papworths email who is the Executive Creative Director along with Tony Davidson at W+K London. They were recently made partners at W+K, and were the first people ever to be made partners outside the portland head office.

Kim did email us back the same day which was a great surprise to me, he said to find some work from W+K that we liked and get in touch with the creative that did that work. So obviously I emailed back saying that it was the work that himself and tony did that we liked and we would love to come in and see them for a book crit.

I did kiss there ass a bit in the email but in my emails they are GODS and GENIUSES, if we did get a book crit with them i would just be a bag of nerves, and probably wouldnt say anything other than shake their hands and just be really quite and shy.

Well here's hoping that we can see them as that would make my dreams come true to meet your heros is such a great thing.

South Clapham

This weekend saw me finally move to London, I am now living at Cotton House, In South Clapham. So far so good I think, the people I am now living with are nice enough, though i am not here to make friends. The flat is actully pretty nice too.

I had a wander round Clapham on Saturday (30.1.10) to see what the area was like i had moved into, its really nice with lots of shops and some really nice looking pubs, bars and restaurants. So at the moment  i am feeling happy about my whole living situation. Just need to find my self a job now.

Now the real work starts tho, everyday I plan to have loads more ideas for our portfolio and to complety change around our portfolio before we go and see any people again. I challenge that I am sure we are up to.

I am betting that in 6 months by the time my contract runs out on my room, i will have my self a good placement or a job.

Here’s hoping.

Job in advertising by december !!!

So its the start of a new decade, Tom is just about to turn 23 and move down to london (hopefully). Tom and I have a few very good book crits coming up this month, JWT, DDB, BMB, M&C Saatchi, WCRS, Mother, Leo Burnett, Farm and AMV BBDO to name just a few.

We were told on our last placement by the creative director that you can either take your book round to 100 agencies till you find someone who likes your work as it is and will offer you a job. Or you can find the top 5 or 10 agencies you want to work for and keep going back until they offer you a placement then a job. We have gone for the latter.

So we both hope that 2010 is that start of an exciting decade where we finally get our break and make it into the weird and wonderful world of Advertising. We know it will be a hard, long struggle but we are both so raring to get stuck into 2010 !!! Happy New Year.
